Joel Verner
Joel Verner (b. 1993) is a Finnish composer and artist from Helsinki. Verner is keenly interested in exploring new kinds of musical expression, be it through musical theory, the sounds of acoustic instruments, or the endless possibilities of electronic music. He is also fascinated by storytelling and narrative theory, and his works have a strong narrative focus, both in terms of structure and concept. Verner’s works explore a wide range of themes that he researches extensively while working on a project. Some recurring themes in his work are the bodily experience, social disconnect, and mythology. In addition to music, Verner also has a passion for visual expression, and he’s most interested in doing works that are interdisciplinary.
Verner graduated from the Tampere University of Applied Sciences in 2021, where he studied musical composition under Hannu Pohjannoro. As a visual artist, Verner is largely self-taught.
